Macro lenses; how good are they at not doing macro?

So I've been in the market for new glass, trying to get a longer focal length fast(ish) prime with stabilization, when I stumbled across the Tamron 90mm macro f2.8 with VC. The lens meets all my criteria, at a nice price point as well, but all the reviews I've found harp on the macro capabilities and not much else. I mostly plan on using the lens for video and portrait (though I am excited to dabble with macro as I've never had a capable lens before) and was wondering if macro lenses suffer from any performance problems when used for more traditional shots? From what I can tell its a very sharp lens in general that also does macro, but since I've had no experience with macro lenses before I want to make sure before I pull the trigger. via /r/photography http://ift.tt/2tcFjZd
